Abstract:
The proliferation of mobile technology has generated considerable scholarly interest in its implications for language education, and publications addressing this intersection have multiplied accordingly. Shirin Shafiei Ebrahimi’s handbook, Mastering English on the Go: The Ultimate Guide to Mobile Apps for Language Instruction (Ebrahimi, 2026), arrives at a moment when practitioners and researchers alike are hungry for synthesized, evidence-based guidance. The book is ambitious in scope, methodologically earnest, and genuinely useful in places. It is also, in certain structural respects, constrained by choices that limit both its scholarly contribution and its practical durability. This review offers a close reading of those choices, with the intent of identifying the gap between what this handbook accomplishes and what it might have accomplished had it built its framework around skill-acquisition criteria rather than product evaluation.
